Cotabato City – A total of 63 individuals underwent mandatory drug testing during a surprise operation at key transportation hubs in Cotabato City. The surprise mandatory drug tests were conducted using breath analyzers and other detection devices at prominent transportation hubs such as the A-Z Van Terminal, Kutoco Van Terminal, Mindanao Star Bus Terminal, and Husky Tours Bus Station. The surprise drug testing was held on March 26, 2024.
This activity was a result of the collaborative effort of the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS)-BARMM together with partners from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Land Transportation Office (LTO), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), Cotabato City Police Office, Regional Highway Patrol Unit, City Public Order and Safety, Cotabato City Mobile Force Company (CMFC), City Health Office, and the City Government of Cotabato, the operation targeted compliance with Republic Act No. 10586, otherwise known as the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013. It aimed to reinforce road safety measures and curb impaired driving incidents.
The coordinated effort emphasized strict adherence to the law and sent a clear message of zero tolerance towards impaired driving. Through such proactive measures, authorities aim to ensure the safety of commuters and reduce the occurrence of road accidents caused by impaired driving in Cotabato City.
