In his decades of service for the Bangsamoro homeland, he is known for his great leadership, profound wisdom, and genuine commitment to serve the Bangsamoro.

He is one of the great pillars of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF). He became a member of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission representing the MILF panel from July 2013 to January 2019.

Currently, he is the Minister of the Ministry of Public Order and Safety of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). The ministry is responsible for the public safety of the region, having a coordinative function with offices and agencies that maintain public order, as well as perform functions relating to peacebuilding, reconciliation and unification.

Also, he is a Parliament Member of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA). This is the result of the peace agreements between the Philippine Government and MILF leading to the ratification of the RA 11054 or the Bangsamoro Organic Law. As a member of the parliament, he authored and co-authored numerous bills. One of which is “An Act Creating the Office of the Bangsamoro Communities Outside Bangsamoro Autonomous Region Defining Its Powers, Functions and Responsibilities and Appropriating Funds therefore and for other Purposes”. This bill provides access and assistance to Bangsamoro of other ethnic linguistic groups residing outside the Bangsamoro core territories to access and avail the services and government programs of the Bangsamoro government.

He is fluent in English and Tagalog, as well as in Maguindanao, Tausug, and Bisaya, and other native dialects in Mindanao. He hails from Lupon, Davao Oriental, Philippines and is famously known as “Sonny Davao.”
