Isabela City, Basilan – The Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) conducted a Consultative Meeting with Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) in the Province of Basilan on March 31, 2021 at Farmland Resort, Isabela City.
The meeting was presided over by Hon. Hussein P. Muñoz, Minister of the MPOS, and was attended by the different LEAs, such as the 101st Infantry Brigade – AFP, the Police Provincial Office (PPO) Basilan, Philippine Coast Guard, and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
The meeting is primarily intended to consult the attendees on how to best establish coordinating mechanisms between the MPOS and LEAs as mandated by the Bangsamoro Administrative Code. Specifically, it is designed to: (a) build stronger partnership between the Bangsamoro Government, through the MPOS, and the LEAs; (b) introduce the mandate, duties, and functions of the MPOS to identify areas of collaboration or partnership; (c) learn from the LEA’s best practices; (d) identify issues and challenges in performing their respective mandates; and (e) gather recommendations on how to enhance public order and safety in the province.
The PPO Basilan was represented by PCOL Rodrigo O Maramo, the Provincial Director of PPO Basilan; the 101st Brigade by LTC Egverr Jonathan A Abutin INF (GSC) PA, Battalion Commander of the 18th Infantry Brigade, LTC Freddie F Calosing INF (GSC) PA, Batallion Commander of the 68th Infantry Batallion, and LTC Alex D Ampati INF (GSC) PA, Batallion Commander of the 4th Special Force. Also in attendance were the Philippine Coast Guard led by LCDR Rojane M Tolentino, Acting Station Commander of CGS Basilan, and Nul Asmawil, OIC Provincial Warden of BJMP – Basilan.
There were several peace and security issues identified during the meeting and the attending LEAs gave their recommendations on how the Bangsamoro Government, through the MPOS, could help in addressing those issues. Moreover, they also raised some concerns, such as the lack or insufficient facilities, among others, which in some way affect their effective performance of duties. The MPOS, on its part, assured them to bring those concerns to the proper offices or ministries of the Bangsamoro Government.
