The Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) tapped the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – BARMM, Provincial Prosecutors, and Trial Court Judges in BASULTA in the recently concluded workshops on handling drugs cases under the chain of custody rule.
According to MPOS Director-General Atty. Al-Rashid Balt, the workshop resulted from a coordinative meeting with LEAs on July 2022 under the Ministry’s Coordination with Law Enforcement Agencies in the Region (CLEAR) Program.
Meanwhile, PDEA Intelligence Officer V Marlon P. Santos explained the rationale of the two-day activity and served as one of the lecturers in all three provinces. The topics include: inquest proceedings and preliminary Investigation; rules on the use of body-worn cameras in the execution of warrants; investigation and marking of evidence; latest jurisprudence related to Republic Act No. 9165; guidelines on court proceedings as a prosecution witness; and salient features of the Joint Memorandum Circular Number 1 series of 2021.
Part of the training were practical exercises on Buy Bust Operations, serving Warrants, warrantless arrests, such as in flagrante delicto arrests, and moot court, among others.
Atty. Nur-Aiza S. Gagara, one of the lecturers and the Basilan Legal Office Officer-in-charge, commended the Ministry’s efforts in conceptualizing the training.
