Zamboanga City| Bolstering the influential role of religious leaders, the Ministry of Public Order and Safety convened fifty (50) Imams and Khutabas from Basilan Province for a transformative training entitled “Capacity Development Training for Imams and Khutabas” at the Ever O Business Hotel in Zamboanga City on February 20-21, 2024. The training was funded through the Transitional Development Impact Fund (TDIF) of the Office of the Member of Parliament Dan Asnawie of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA). The event aimed to equip Imams and Khutabas with the tools and inspiration needed to become beacons of hope in their communities.
One of the participants who is an Imam (Islamic Leader) shared his gratitude and commitment to pursue the learnings and share it to his community through his Khutba (Friday sermon). He said, “𝘐𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘢 𝘈𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘩 (𝘚𝘞𝘛) 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢 𝘴𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘣𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘥 𝘶𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘨𝘥𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘯. 𝘋𝘢𝘩𝘪𝘭 𝘴𝘢 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘪-𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘺𝘰 𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘬𝘢𝘮𝘪 𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘺𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘵 𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘵𝘪𝘱𝘰𝘯-𝘵𝘪𝘱𝘰𝘯. 𝘈𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘯𝘢 𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘪 𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘬𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘪𝘴𝘢 𝘴𝘢 𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘰𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘥.” He added, “𝘔𝘢𝘴 𝘭𝘢𝘭𝘰 𝘳𝘪𝘯 𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯 𝘴𝘢 𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘬𝘩𝘶𝘵𝘣𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘬𝘰𝘭 𝘴𝘢 𝘬𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘰 𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘥 𝘢𝘵 𝘬𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘢 𝘐𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘮 𝘭𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨-𝘭𝘢𝘭𝘰 𝘯𝘢 𝘴𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘶𝘺𝘰𝘥 𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘵 𝘬𝘢𝘢𝘺𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘢 𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘶𝘨𝘢𝘳.”
The training sessions encompasses topics on the role of religious leaders in promoting peace and public order, ethical conduct guided by Islamic principles (Ang mga Pinag-uutos at Pinagbabawal sa Islam), Brotherhood in Islam (Ang Kapatiran sa Islam), and Significance of life in Islam (Ang Kahalagahan ng Buhay sa Islam), fifty (50) Imams and Khutabas from Basilan Province, were equipped with valuable insights and skills to foster peace and unity within their communities.

In addition to the knowledge imparted, the program also provided financial assistance to support the Imams in their noble endeavors, acknowledging the often-uncompensated nature of their work. This financial support ensures their continued dedication to promoting peace and development in the region. Also, one of the participants shared, “𝘚𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘯𝘪𝘺𝘢 𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘬 𝘴𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘪 𝘣𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯 𝘔𝘢𝘢𝘮/𝘚𝘪𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮 𝘥𝘶𝘬 𝘥𝘶 𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘣 𝘴𝘢𝘸𝘦𝘩 𝘬𝘢𝘮𝘪 𝘨𝘶𝘳𝘶 𝘥𝘶𝘬 𝘮𝘦𝘩 𝘐𝘮𝘢𝘮 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘨-𝘨𝘢𝘩 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘶 𝘩𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘢-𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘪𝘵 𝘥𝘶 𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘣 𝘬𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘱-𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘢𝘯 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘢.”(We hoped that there will be another batch of the same program in the future for our fellow Imams and Khutaba.)
Participants ended the training with renewed vigor, longing for peace and prosperity in their communities. This collaborative effort of the Bangsamoro Government underscored a collective commitment to foster a peaceful and safe environment in the province of Basilan and in the entire Bangsamoro region.
