After several years of longstanding conflict, two opposing families from Lamitan City, Basilan, have finally reached a reconciliation settlement agreement on April 16, 2024, at the Lamitan City Gymnasium, Lamitan City, Basilan. This resolution brings about a newfound peace that creates a safe environment that fosters community security and stability that encourages peaceful coexistence and social cohesion.
“𝘚𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘢𝘢𝘯 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢 𝘴𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘬𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘪𝘴𝘢. Clanzy M. Magliwan expressed his hope that this rido settlement would pave the way for unity among both parties and everyone present. He also extended his appreciation to all the stakeholders for their relentless efforts to ensure the success of this reconciliation.
This significant resolution was facilitated through the collaborative effort of the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS)-BARMM and various partners, and stakeholders namely Mr. Muhti Abdullah from the Nonviolent Peaceforce, Mr. Mistiri Tarami, Chairman of Basilan Local Alternative Dispute Resolution Association Inc (BLADRAI) and Hdj. Samad D. Atain, Chairman of GPH-MILF CCCH who convened for the Rido Settlement. Among those present were Mr. Noel Baul, Executive Assistant to the Lamitan City Mayor; 1LT. Clanzy M. Magliwan Commanding Officer of Bravo Company, 18th IB Philippine Army; and officials from the Barangay Local Government Units (BLGU) of Muhammad Ajul Municipality, who served as witnesses to the event.
By ending years of conflict through dialogue and mediation, the involved parties demonstrate a commitment to non-violent conflict resolution and the collective well-being of residents. This settlement also sets a positive precedent for others grappling with similar disputes, demonstrating the path to peaceful reconciliation, and enabling to live without the dread of violence or reprisal.
