Around 600 individuals from institutions and ministries within the BARMM government, international non-government organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations (CSOs), and concerned citizens of Cotabato City and BARMM actively participated in today’s (April 23, 2024) “Rivers to Ocean Cleanup Day” at the Bangsamoro Ports Management Authority, Poblacion 6, Cotabato City.
Amid growing concerns about environmental degradation, the river clean-up drive aims to address pollution and litter found on rivers and water resources, ensuring that the environment and its ecosystem remain healthy and sustainable for generations to come.
KGI Chairperson Danilo T. Mocsin said, “𝘛𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺’𝘴 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺-𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦.” Simultaneously, clean-up drive activities are also being conducted along the rivers, lakes, and coastal areas of Maguindanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, and their respective municipalities.
Hundreds of volunteers from the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS)-BARMM together with the Kutawato Greenland Initiatives Inc (KGI) and partner organizations have gathered at Pantalan, Cotabato City, equipped with gloves, bags, and a determination to make a difference. The participants are dispersed along designated cleanup zones, ready to tackle debris and restore the natural beauty of the Rio Grande de Mindanao river.
