Cotabato City, BARMM | The Ministry of Public Order and Safety-BARMM awarded this year’s Bangsamoro Peace Champion to humanitarian worker Nishreen Y. Hashim from Sultan Kudarat Maguindanao for her exemplary peace initiative in empowering citizen participation in barangay decision making, responsiveness to issues and calamity, and enhancing inclusive governance in Brgy. Butiren, Kabuntalan, Maguindanao. She received a cash reward of Php100, 000 in support of her advocacy. A plaque of recognition and token is also given to her in addition to the cash reward. The awarding ceremony was held at Grand Pagana Hall, Cotabato City on November 30, 2021 (Tuesday).
Five (5) BPC 2021 Finalist namely Sadat Minandang, Helen Mae Betito, Jaymon Samelon, Maelar Hachenova and Al-Fatah Abdullah also received Php50, 000 each in support of their peace advocacies and plaque of appreciation. Among the 5 finalists, Ms. Helen Betito also received the People’s Choice Award with additional cash reward of Php20, 000.
The Quest for Bangsamoro Peace Champion 2021 is an annual event that aims to recognize and promote the initiatives of the Bangsamoro grassroots peacebuilders in the region.
Minister Hussein P. Muñoz commented during the awarding ceremony that: “As we celebrate the Mindanao Week of Peace, the ministry offers you this award giving process to recognize worthy initiatives for peace in the region. We stand true to the principle that every Bangsamoro, regardless of faith, ethnicity and gender is an asset that will prosper the aspirations we have fought hard.” He added also: “Thus, this Bangsamoro Peace Champion awards are just of the few means to manifest how much we value the contributions from the people in different sectors of our sector.”
Present in the awarding ceremony were MPOS Director-General Atty. Al-Rashid L. Balt and BPC 2021 Judges; Dr. Jovar Pantao of Mindanao State University-General Santos City and BPC 2020 Esmael Sema.
The Quest for BPC is one of the Ministry’s efforts to contribute in sustaining the region’s journey to peace.
