BONGAO, TAWI-TAWI | 50 empowered women representing various sectors, such as LGUs, academe, CSOs, youth, religious and traditional leaders, among others, attended the 2-day Capacity Building for Women Local Mediators held at Almari Beach Resort, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi on April 7-8 2021.
The activity is part of the endeavours of the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) to achieve lasting peace in Bangsamoro communities. This is in accordance with its mandate to perform functions related to peace building, reconciliation, and unifications of all the peoples in the region. Specifically, the MPOS is tasked to conduct programs, projects and activities for the effective settlement of family feuds and other horizontal conflicts in the region. In recognition of the vital roles of women in conflict resolution, the MPOS conducted this activity to enhance the knowledge and expertise of women local mediators in rido settlement and conflict resolution.
Hon. Mohammad Yusoph Tidal, Board Member of the 1st District of Tawi-Tawi, and the Chairman on Peace and Order, graced the event and delivered an inspirational message. “It is efforts like these that fuels our optimism that our society is going the right direction”, he stressed.
Hon. Dayang Karslum, Sangkula-Jumaide, Board Member of Tawi-Tawi, representing Women Sector, and Prof. Jurma Tikmasan, the Executive Director of Tarbilang Foundation, Inc., delivered lectures on Basic Skills on Mediation, and Women in Rido Settlement, respectively.
The same activity was conducted in Cagayan de Oro last year for women local mediators and women-led groups from Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao and North Cotabato
