Two (2) prominent families foster reconciliation through the signing of a mutually beneficial agreement during the rido peace settlement at the Municipality of Matanog, Maguindanao Del Norte, BARMM, on July 26, 2023.
The long-standing dispute involving two families was resolved through the collaborative effort and intervention of the Bangsamoro Government through the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS), and the concerted endeavors of the Local Government Units from Barira, Buldon, Matanog, Sultan Mastura, and Parang, collectively known as Bangsa-Iranun, contributed to the resolution. Additionally, the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Iranun Reconciliation Council (IRC), and various other concerned individuals, organizations, and groups played a vital role in enabling the successful rido settlement.

Along with the Vice Mayor, the settlement was also attended by the Mayor of Matanog, Hon. Zohria S. Bansil-Guro; Vice Mayor of Matanog, Hon. Sanaira I. Ali-Imam; Mayor of Buldon, Hon. Pahmia A. Manalao-Mastura; Vice Mayor of Buldon, Hon. Abolais A. Manalao; Mayor of Parang, Hon. Cahar P. Ibay, Mayor of Barira, Hon. Abdulraof D. Tomawis; Vice Mayor of Barira, Bahrain M. Dagalangit; Former Mayor of Barira, Abdulradzak D. Tomawis; Mayor of Sultan Mastura, Hon. Zulficar Ali H. Panda; Commanding Officer, LTCOL John A Dela Cruz PN (M) (GSC) MBLT-2; Commander, 1st Marine Brigade, BGEN Eric A. Macaambac PN (M); IRC Chairman, Mr. Aleem Yusop S. Palawan; MACRU Chairman, ADRT Chairman, and Community Affairs Mr. Maner Angcog; Local Officials; and other rido mitigation-focused organizations and groups.

The settlement proceeded by reading the comprehensive agreement headed by Mr. Lininding Alim, Secretary of the Iranun Reconciliation Council (IRC) and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Team-Matanog. This was followed by the swearing of the Qur’an, which was led by IRC and ADRT Matanog personnel and attested to by individuals in attendance. Furthermore, to mark the unification and resolution of the conflict, the disputing families signed the agreement and exchanged ceremonial handshakes, symbolizing the newly formed union and peace in the community.

Cahar P. Ibay encourages residents to participate in achieving peace in their community.
Rido Settlement is one of the flagship programs under the Ministry’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Program (ADRP) that aims to ensure a safe, secure, and peaceful Bangsamoro region. The successful closure of the conflict demonstrates the effectiveness of joint efforts between governmental bodies, community leaders, and various stakeholders in safeguarding peace and order in the region.
