A diverse assembly of civil society organizations and students from different schools came together to pay tribute to the enduring memory of the Jabidah Massacre and the Dansalan Declaration on March 18, 2024, at Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex, Cotabato City.
The Jabidah Massacre, a tragic event that took place on March 18, 1968, sparked the Moro insurgency in Mindanao and fueled the fight for self-determination.
During the retelling of the story of Jabidah Massacre, Dr. Tirmizy E. Abdullah, professor from the History Department of the Mindanao State University, recounted that, “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘑𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘩 𝘔𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘉𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘰’𝘴 𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧-𝘥𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.”
Another resource person on the topic of the Dansalan Declaration, Commissioner Robert M. Alonto of the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, claimed that “𝘏𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘵𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧. 𝘐𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘺 𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺.”
Also present in the commemoration is Hon. Abdulkudos Balitoc, Deputy Minister of MPOS, where he shared that, “𝘒𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘨𝘭𝘦𝘴.”
This year’s commemoration featured a literary contest on essay writing, photo essay, and spoken poetry. Ms. Sakira Sama won as the champion of the spoken poetry contest, with Mr. Garret Dayaday securing the 1st runner-up and Ms. Raihana Ginomla achieving 2nd runner-up. In the essay writing competition, Ms. Rain Cyrene V. Quitiol claimed the championship title, while Ms. Sharifa Safrina G. Buttongah and Ms. Bai Rasmia T. Abag were recognized as 1st and 2nd runner-up respectively. For the photo essay writing contest, Mr. Datu Abdulhier A. Jalani took the top spot as champion, followed by Mr. Kasmer S. Kalipapa as 1st runner-up, and Ms. Fuzziyah R. Mamokhan as 2nd runner-up.
