Twenty (20) women local mediators representing various municipalities in Basilan underwent a two-day capacity development training of the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) dubbed “Capacity Development for Women Local Mediators” under the Ministry’s program on “Intervention to Local Mediators”. The activity aimed to capacitate the women local mediators on basic mediation skills, facilitation techniques, profiling, monitoring, reporting, and documentation of identified conflicts or rido within their respective communities. The activity was held on May 12-13, 2023 at the Formation Center in Brgy. Sta. Cruz, Isabela City, Basilan.
Mr. Jul-Asri Jagoh, one of the resource person of the training and a well known Islamic educator in the province discussed the topic on the “Rights of Women in Islam.” Mr. Jagoh highlighted the importance of women in local mediaton. He said, “𝘈𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘦 𝘢𝘺 𝘬𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘵 𝘬𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘢 𝘴𝘢 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘬𝘰𝘭 𝘴𝘢 𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘬𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘢𝘯 𝘶𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘺𝘰𝘯 𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘭𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘬𝘦 (𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴). 𝘚𝘢 𝘬𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘱𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘨 𝘴𝘢 𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘺𝘰𝘯, 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘢 𝘴𝘶𝘯𝘯𝘢𝘩 𝘯𝘨 𝘐𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘮”.
The participants underwent a series of lectures, structured workshops, and interactive discussions wherein they were able to share their personal experiences and insights as a female local mediator in the province. Ms. Junay A. Kammaring, one of the participants, shared her personal insights as a female local mediator in her community. “𝘈𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘦 𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴𝘢 𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘩𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘺𝘰𝘯 𝘶𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘱𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘨-𝘴𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘰 𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘢 𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘶𝘨𝘢𝘳. 𝘋𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘵 𝘬𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘺𝘰 𝘴𝘢 𝘬𝘢𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘢 𝘪𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘴𝘺𝘰𝘯 𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘰 𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘢 𝘉𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘯,” she said during the training’s sharing sessions.
Ms. Suhaima T. Sablani from the Non-Violent Peace Force – Basilan, expressed her gratitude for the Ministry’s initiatives and efforts in Basilan, saying “𝘖𝘯 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘧 𝘱𝘰 𝘴𝘢 𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘬𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 𝘓𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘔𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴, 𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘱𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘰 𝘬𝘢𝘮𝘪 𝘴𝘢 𝘉𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘰 𝘎𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘭𝘢𝘭𝘰 𝘯𝘢 𝘴𝘢 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘗𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘤 𝘖𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘵𝘺 𝘴𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘱𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘶𝘯𝘭𝘢𝘬 𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘣𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘨𝘪 𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘺𝘰 𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘺 𝘢𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘢 𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘯 𝘯𝘨 𝘙𝘪𝘥𝘰 𝘚𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵.” Ms. Sablani also acknowledged the Ministry’s contribution to the establishment of a peaceful and safe environment in Basilan.
As a result of the training program, the participants emerged with a newfound sense of empowerment and were equipped with the essential skills to effectively tackle, resolve, and proactively prevent family feuds and other conflicts in their respective communities.
The activity was conducted through the Ministry’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Division (ADRD) Community Affairs Officers in Basilan through the Ministry’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Program (ADRP) that aimed to capacitate, empower and support local mediators in achieving a safe and peaceful communities in the Bangsamoro region.
