We are deeply concerned about the recent surge in fire incidents that have occurred within our region in the past few days. These incidents not only pose a threat to lives and properties but also disrupt the normalcy of our communities. To ensure the safety and well-being of our people, 𝙬𝙚 𝙪𝙧𝙜𝙚 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙞𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙥𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨.
The reported fire incidents are as follows:
(1) September 6, 2023 – Cotabato City
(2) September 6, 2023 – Lumba Bayabao, Lanao del Sur
(3) September 7, 2023 – Bongao, Tawi-Tawi
In light of these incidents, we would like to emphasize the following safety measures to prevent fire accidents in our region:
𝟭. 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀
Educate yourself and your family members about fire safety protocols and evacuation plans.
Conduct regular fire drills at home and in your community to ensure everyone knows what to do in case of a fire.
𝟮. 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆
Avoid overloading electrical outlets and extension cords.
Check for faulty wiring, and damaged electrical appliances, and replace them promptly.
Unplug appliances when not in use.
𝟯. 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Regularly inspect your property for potential fire hazards, such as flammable materials or clutter.
Keep combustible materials away from heat sources.
𝟰. 𝗦𝗺𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆
If you smoke, do so in designated areas and dispose of cigarette butts properly.
Never smoke in bed or near flammable materials.
𝟱. 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆
Exercise caution when using candles, stoves, or any open flames.
Keep these items away from children and flammable objects.
𝟲. 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Ensure that everyone in your household knows how to contact emergency services in case of a fire or any other emergency.
𝟳. 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗺𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗺𝘀
Install smoke alarms in your home and check them regularly to ensure they are working.
Keep fire extinguishers on hand and know how to use them.
𝟴. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗩𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲
Look out for suspicious activities in your community and report them to the authorities.
𝟵. 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀
Comply with local fire safety regulations and cooperate with the fire department during inspections or emergencies.
𝟭𝟬. 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻
Develop and discuss a family evacuation plan in case of a fire. Identify safe meeting points outside your home.
𝙒𝙚 𝙪𝙧𝙜𝙚 𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙡𝙮 to prevent further fire incidents in the region. 𝙁𝙞𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙩𝙮 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮, and it begins with each of us. By being vigilant and proactive, we can protect our homes, our loved ones, and our communities from the devastating effects of fires.
