On July 12-14, 2023, the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) in partnership with the Provincial Cooperative Office of Lanao del Sur, MAFAR-LDS, CSEA-BARMM embarked on an important initiative aimed at fostering progress and sustainability in Butig Municipality. The endeavor is known as “SDF 2020: Butig Rehabilitation Program: Organizing and Capacity Development for Cooperative (Skills Training for Dianaton-Naim Producer Cooperative)”, an intervention of the Ministry to support the rehabilitation of the conflict-affected Municipality of Butig, Lanao del Sur, funded through the Special Development Fund (SDF). The three-day skills training was held at New Dawn Hotel Plus in Cagayan de Oro City.
The primary objective of the activity was to empower the twenty-three (23) Dianaton-Naim Producer coop members with valuable knowledge and skills related to various methods of agricultural productivity and opportunities. By doing so, the initiative sought to establish a strong foundation for an agro-related income-generating project within the cooperative. Ultimately, this would ensure the organization’s stability and sustainability while simultaneously improving the livelihoods of its members.
Mr. Amelodin P. Macatbar, Chairman of the Dianaton-Naim Producer Cooperative, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry and its partner agencies for their unwavering support throughout the planning and establishment of their cooperative. “𝘐𝘯 𝘚𝘩𝘢 𝘈𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘩, 𝘭𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘬𝘢𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘯𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘰 𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘵 𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯 𝘴𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘨-𝘶𝘯𝘭𝘢𝘥 𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘰𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘣𝘢. During the training, Ms. Jolainie S. Tagoranao, Cooperative Development Specialist II of CSEA-BARMM emphasized the significance of trust among cooperative members. She encouraged participants to prioritize the cooperative’s well-being and unity as fundamental elements for its progressive growth. Furthermore, Mr. Jamil D. Amer from MAFAR-Lanao del Sur delivered an insightful lecture on “Philippine Rice Industry Situation, Challenges, and Opportunities,” aimed at equipping attendees with in-depth technical knowledge about the current state of the rice industry.
On July 13, to further enhance the performance and operation of the Dianaton-Naim Producer Cooperative, a benchmarking session was organized in Butuan City. This session allowed the cooperative to learn from successful agricultural businesses in nearby provinces and municipalities.
Mr. Manuelito C. Suan, General Manager of Butuan Agusan Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BAF MPC), shared their cooperative’s commitment to nurturing a new generation of business-oriented farmers. He highlighted the importance of improving the lives of farmers, as they play a vital role in the community’s overall economic well-being, saying, “𝘈𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘶𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘢 𝘬𝘰𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘣𝘢 𝘢𝘺 𝘥𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘪𝘯 𝘴𝘢 𝘬𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘨𝘶𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘢 𝘢𝘺 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘭𝘰𝘺 𝘬𝘢𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘪𝘬𝘢𝘱 𝘯𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯 𝘯𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘰𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘣𝘢. On July 14, the participants focused their discussion on devising a comprehensive action plan and determining key priorities for establishing and operationalizing the cooperative’s agricultural product. The outcomes of this productive session will serve as a crucial reference for the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) to complement the participants’ needs and guide future interventions effectively.
