Maguindanao del Sur, a region historically marked by intricate communal dynamics, took a significant step forward in its pursuit of sustainable peace and harmony with a focused training initiative entitled โ๐พ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐๐ฉ๐ฎ ๐ฟ๐๐ซ๐๐ก๐ค๐ฅ๐ข๐๐ฃ๐ฉ ๐๐ค๐ง ๐๐ค๐๐๐ก ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฉ๐ค๐ง๐จ ๐ค๐ ๐๐๐๐ช๐๐ฃ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ค ๐๐๐ก ๐๐ช๐งโorganized by the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS)-BARMM. The training aimed to fortify the capabilities of local mediators in navigating the complexities of community conflict resolution. The activity was held from 29 April to 1 May, 2024, at the Greenleaf Hotel in General Santos City.
A cohort comprising 40 dedicated local mediators from various municipalities and communities within Maguindanao del Sur converged for this transformative endeavor. The participants were composed of officials and representatives from renowned local mediator organizations in Maguindanao del Sur, namely: Bangsamoro United Forces Mediator Authority (BUFMA), Magungaya Organization for Peace and Development (MOPAD), MILF Political Committee- Damakling Province, MILF Political Committee- Buayan Province, Rajahbuayan Dimasangkay Development Foundation Inc., and Nagkakaisang Kumunidad (Datu Montawal and Pagalungan, MDS).

At the heart of the training lay an in-depth exploration of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) legal frameworks. Through comprehensive discussions on the ADR Act of 2004, alongside insights into the Rules of Court on Mediation and the Rules of Procedure for Small Claims (A.M.No. 08-8-7 SC) informatively discussed by Atty. Sapphira Dimalotang, Attorney IV of MPOS-BARMM. The mediators gained a nuanced understanding of the legal underpinnings essential for facilitating fair and just resolutions.
Moreover, the training delved into multifaceted dimensions crucial for adept mediation. It was discussed by Mr. Mohamad Masukat Kuday, LPT, MAPD. His lecture underscored the paramount importance of cultural competency in mediation endeavors. By delving into the intricacies of cultural differences and their impact on conflicts and mediation processesโbe it linguistic nuances or divergent social norms and valuesโmediators emerged equipped with the cultural acumen necessary for fostering mutual understanding and reconciliation.

Additionally, the training emphasized the necessity of trauma-informed mediationโa holistic approach that acknowledges the profound impact of trauma on conflict resolution processes. By integrating trauma-informed approaches into their practice, mediators are equipped to navigate sensitive issues with empathy and sensitivity, thereby facilitating healing and resolution. Furthermore, equipped mediators with tools to manage emotions effectively. By fostering the ability to recognize and regulate emotions, both their own and those of others, mediators can prevent escalations and guide deliberations towards rational and constructive outcomes.
