Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, October 21, 2021 – The Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) conducted two (2) separate activities for local mediators, one for the Province of Tawi-Tawi and another for the Municipality of Bongao on October 19-21, 2021, at Rachel’s Place Hotel and Restaurant, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi. The activities include organizing, capacity development, and orientation on Alternative Dispute Resolution. The first part of the program started last October 19-20, 2021. It was participated by 40 local mediators from the different municipalities of the province. On the other hand, the second part took place on October 20-21, 2021 and was participated by 35 local mediators, mostly women, from the Municipality of Bongao, Tawi-tawi.
The program aims to build stronger partnership with local mediators, enhance their capacity on local mediation, orient them on Alternative Dispute Resolution, and more importantly, assist them to formally organize for greater impact and sustainability of their noble endeavors.
The program resulted in the formation of a group of local mediators – the Association of Local Mediators in Tawi-Tawi (ALMTA) – which consists of representatives coming from the different LGUs of the province. The MPOS facilitated the said formation including the selection of its interim officers and deigning its organizational structure, among others. Immediately after the program, ALMTA convened and made its initial plans on how to move forward from its formation and agreed to register their association with the Securities and Exchange Commission to acquire juridical personality. The same program was also conducted in the different provinces of BARMM including its Special Geographic Areas (formerly 63 Barangays of North Cotabato).
