On May 20 to 23, 2024, the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) carried out a significant peacebuilding initiative in Butig, a conflict-affected area in Lanao del Sur entitled “Butig Rehabilitation Program” under the Ministry’s Special Development Fund (SDF) 2020. Thirty (30) members of the Pindig Agro-Fisheries Producer Cooperative underwent comprehensive aquaculture livelihood skills training held at Lake View Resort, Timbangalan, Marawi City, Lanao del Sur. The training covered various methods to enhance aquaculture productivity and explored new opportunities in the field.

The success of the program was made possible through the technical assistance and dedication of MAFAR-Lanao del Sur. Aquaculturist Abdul Halim Gunda and Ms. Norain Manalundong conducted comprehensive sessions on post-harvesting techniques, marketing strategies, and processing methods, including a SWOT analysis for the cooperative. Practical demonstrations and workshops further enriched participants’ skills in fish product preparation and processing.
Moreover, a benchmarking activity was conducted at BFAR Region 10-Lanao del Norte Office to provide valuable insights and opportunities for the cooperative. Participants also visited fish ponds and hatcheries to observe effective fish-growing methods.
Mr. Noel Saldajeno, Provincial Fisheries Officer-BFAR-10, and the LAFICO Manager introduced advanced fish processing techniques and potential business ventures. Mr. Noel Saldajeno urged cooperative members to persevere in their endeavors, emphasizing the importance of dedication for project success, which ultimately benefits their members and community. He said, “𝘉𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦, 𝘬𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘨 𝘴𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘨 𝘱𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘰 𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘩𝘦𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘴, 𝘢𝘵 𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘢 𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘯 𝘢𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘢 𝘵𝘶𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘺𝘰 𝘴𝘢 𝘪𝘯𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘮𝘺𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘳𝘰 𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺.”
