May 2, 2024 | The Ministry of Public Order and Safety in partnership with the local government of Bayang Municipality spearheads the commemoration of the 122nd anniversary of the Battle of Bayang also known as “Padang Karbala”. the incident was chronicled by Americans as the fiercest battle among all the insurrection in the Philippines where numerous martyred Maranao noblemen sacrificed their lives in defense of the Moro land at Barangay Sultan Pandapatan in Bayang, Lanao del Sur.
This commemorative ceremony is part of the regular programms of the Ministry on popularizing Bangsamoro historical events and is a tribute to the courageous individuals of the Kota Pandapatan who laid down their lives against the invaders.
The Director-General of MPOS, Atty. Al-Rashid L. Balt shared the initiatives of Ministry for the Padang Karbala. He mentioned that, “Ito ang ika-apat na paggunita ng MPOS sa anibersaryo ng Battle of Bayang at may mga proyekto na tayo ditong patapos na, katulad ng Bangsamoro Peace Center, pagpapaayos ng madrasah at masajid, at iba pa.”
In his speech, Member of Parliament Alimontaha Datuharon Babao said that, “Patunay lamang ang pagtitipong ito na hindi nasayang ang ipinaglaban ng ating mga ninuno dito sa Bayang. Ang Padang Karbala ay isa sa pinakamalupit at pinakamadugong labanan sa kasaysayan ng Bangsamoro.
Moreover, historians and other Bangsamoro leaders were in attendance unveiling the historical importance of commemorating the Battle of Bayang. Students and teachers of different schools in Bayang were also present in the observance of the commemoration.
The MPOS remains committed to honoring significant historical events as part of its ongoing efforts to preserve the truth about the history of the Bangsamoro people. This is aligned with the objective of addressing historical injustices that have been inflicted against the Bangsamoro.
