On April 3, 2024, an edifying event unfolded at the Parang District Jail in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte. Forty (40) individuals, referred to as Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL), took part in a program aimed at fostering community safety and empowerment. This initiative was spearheaded by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Order and Safety’s activity entitled “Support to Information Drive of Law Enforcement Agencies.”
This activity sought to raise awareness among the PDLs about the detrimental effects of illegal drugs and other illicit substances on their lives and to counter the stigma and discrimination they encounter under custodial care, fostering inclusivity within society. This event serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion and support for all members of the society regardless of their circumstances.
Emphasizing the imperative of collective action, JO1 Harris Ampatuan cited the renowned adage, “𝘈𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘦, 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘰 𝘴𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦, 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘰 𝘴𝘰 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩.” JO1 Ampatuan underscored that the success of this initiative hinges upon the active involvement of the Bangsamoro Government through MPOS and its stakeholders. He emphasized that combating illegal drugs necessitates the unified support and participation of every individual involved.
This activity is facilitated by the Ministry’s Home Affairs Services: Law Enforcement Coordination Division (HAS:LECD) under its flagship program Coordination with Law Enforcement Agencies in the Region (CLEAR). This initiative aims to strengthen coordination mechanisms between MPOS and Law Enforcement Agencies through its sub-activities which are designed to create and environment of collaboration and communication while providing assistance to law enforcement agencies efforts towards maintaining peace and order, and ensuring a safe and secured BARMM.
