Cotabato City, BARMM | Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) in partnership with The Asia Foundation (TAF) convened the law enforcement agencies in the Bangsamoro region for the 2nd Bangsamoro Public Order and Safety Conference with this year’s theme “Establishing Synergistic Partnership with Law Enforcement Agencies and Other Stakeholders in BARMM: A key to Safe, Peaceful, and Progressive Bangsamoro” held at Em Manor Hotel and Convention Center, Cotabato City last December 9-10, 2021.
Key officials from the Armed Forces of the Philippines Western Mindanao Command (AFP-WestMinCom), Philippine National Police – Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PNP-PRO BAR), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP-BARMM), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP-BARMM), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and other law enforcement agencies in the region joined the conference.
“It is our ardent desire to strengthen collaborations between and among peace and security stakeholders in the region such as the law enforcement agencies, the civil society organizations, the local government units, the National Government agencies, and the Bangsamoro Government.” Minister Hussein Muñoz said on his welcome message during the conference. He added also, “We believe through this conference, our common interest and efforts as peace enablers, we commit to deliver the expectations of the people to whom we assured a safe and secure BARMM. Let this conference be the witness to that commitment for a peaceful and developed Bangsamoro whom our service is dedicated.”
The two-day conference aimed to enhance collaboration between and among peace and security actors and to formulate strategies in improving the peace, public order and safety in the region. Among the subject matters discussed that related to Bangsamoro public order and safety are: (1) Defense and Security; (2) Peace and Order; (3) Fire Safety Status; (4) Jail Management; (5) Updates on Drug Enforcement; (6) Updates on BTF-ELAC; (7) Civil Society on Peace and Security in the Bangsamoro; (8) Women, Peace, and Security; (9) Updates on the Normalization; and (10) Preparation for a Clean, Honest, and Peaceful Election.
“The BARMM is a result of a peace process between the GPH and MILF and we cannot permit spoilers to destroy of what we have worked so hard for over the last four decades. As we enter the next phase of transition, may we remember that public order and safety are essential elements in rebuilding our beautiful homeland for growth, a high trust and resilient society and a globally competitive knowledge economy.” Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim said in a video recorded message.
One of the outputs of the training was an action plan in preventing election-related violence in the upcoming 2022 Election in the Bangsamoro.
