WOMEN IN MEDIATION | The Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) conducted the Capacity Development for Women Local Mediators, at Notre Dame Review Center, Jolo, Sulu on 15-16 July 2021. It was participated by forty (40) amazing women representing various women mediation groups, organizations, academe, and local government units in the Province of Sulu.
The activity is in line with the mandate of the MPOS to perform functions related to peace building, reconciliation, and unification of all the peoples in the region. Specifically, the MPOS is tasked under the Bangsamoro Administrative Code to conduct programs, projects and activities for the effective settlement of family feuds or Rido and other horizontal conflicts in the region.
The activity is in recognition of the vital roles of women in conflict resolution as well as to enhance their knowledge and expertise in rido settlement and conflict resolution.
Sulu Board Member Hon. Dr. Charina Izquierdo Isahac, and Bangsamoro Women Commission-Sulu Commissioner Hon. Nurunihar Mohammad both graced the event and conveyed their strong supports to efforts such as the subject activity, which not only promoting peace but also women empowerment.
To fulfill the very purpose of the event, series of lectures and topics were placed and materialized for the participants, such as the Women in Rido Settlement presented by Ma’am Nur-Aisa Gonzales, women empowerment advocate and Principal at Kasambuhan Village Elementary School, Indanan, Sulu; Women’s Rights in PD 1083 discussed by Atty. Abuali Abbas, Attorney IV of MPOS; Basic Skills on Mediation lectured by Rosemain T. Abduraji, the Executive Director of Tumikang Sama-Sama Inc. ; and the topic Understanding Alternative Dispute Resolution in BARMM by Atty. Al-Rashid L. Balt, the Bangsamoro Director-General of MPOS-BARMM.
For this year, the same activity was so far successfully conducted for the women mediators of the Province of Tawi-Tawi, Province of Maguindanao, and the Special Geographic Areas (SGA) of BARMM.
