On March 20-21 2023, The Bangsamoro Government, through the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS), conducted one of the Ministry’s peacebuilding initiatives under the Butig Rehabilitation Program, the “Training on Tourism Management for the Technical Working Group of LGU- Butig Tourism Management” at Go Hotels in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte.
This training is under the Butig Rehabilitation Program – an intervention of the MPOS to support the rehabilitation of the conflict-affected Municipality of Butig, Lanao del Sur, and funded through the Special Development Fund (SDF).
Around 25 individual from LGU-Butig and LDS Provincial Office on Culture, Arts, and Tourism participated the training. The activity delved into subject matters on “Understanding the Concepts of Tourism Management”, shed light on the latest developments in “Tourism Management for Local Government Unit” and, experience sharing from the “Journey of the Municipality of Nunungan, Lanao del Norte on Tourism Development.” These are purposed to offer and reinforce the knowledge on tourism of the participants to attain the aspiration of LGU Butig to transform the Municipality from its image as a conflict-affected into a peaceful and developing community.
During the event, Municipal Mayor Marcos M. Mamay of Nunungan, LDN shared his municipality’s journey and strategies to address peace and security issues towards successful tourism development. “𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘯𝘰 𝘵𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘮 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘪𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰 𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳. 𝘚𝘰, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘺 𝘸𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵”, Mayor Marcos said.
In attendance during the aforementioned activity were several individuals who provided valuable inputs, namely: Prof. Ainnie Gangco, Dean of MSU Main College of Hospitality and Tourism Management, and Ms. Anne Fatima Latiph, Chairperson of Tourism Department of the same college, who shared their expertise on tourism management and ecotourism. Additionally, the Provincial Tourism Officer of the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur, Ahmad Nouraldin Tamano Jr., and Senior Technical Staff of MTIT-LDS, Prince Shoudery M. Galo, shared their office’s PPAs, which have significant relevance in the continuous support and sustainability of tourism development in Butig. Mr. Saiben Mampao, Chief of Technical Service Division of DENR-LDN, also discussed the journey of LGU Nunungan’s protected areas, which served as a crucial component of its transformation.
This program is part of the endeavors of the Ministry to achieve an enduring peace in the Bangsamoro under its mandate to implement programs related to peacebuilding, reconciliation, and unification.
