In support of the women’s month celebration and the vital contribution of Bangsamoro women in conflict resolution, the Ministry of Public Order and Safety organized a three-day “Capacity Development and Strategic Planning Workshop for Women Local Mediators in Lanao del Sur” on March 16-18, 2023, at Go Hotels, Iligan City, Lanao del Norte.
Twenty-five (25) women peacebuilders and local mediators hailing from various agencies, local NGOs, and organizations located in Lanao del Sur. The attendees were convened under the umbrella of Bae a Tomanor sa Ranaw (BT’RA), a network of inspiring women committed to peacebuilding, conflict prevention and resolution, and women’s empowerment in Lanao del Sur.
The objective of this intervention is to build partnerships with local mediators and groups and to provide assistance in strengthening their organizations by establishing strategic directions and institutionalizing them. In addition, the program creates opportunities for participants to enhance their understanding of strategic planning, basic organizational concepts, and organizational management to ensure that the organization is operationalized and sustainable.
During the session, one of the participants shared her personal inspiration and reason for becoming a woman local mediator, she said: “𝘉𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘢 𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘰, 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘪 𝘯𝘢 𝘢𝘬𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘯𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘥𝘢𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘰𝘬 𝘴𝘢 𝘣𝘶𝘩𝘢𝘺, 𝘪𝘴𝘢 𝘯𝘢 𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘬𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘢 𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘸𝘢 𝘴𝘢 𝘑𝘪𝘩𝘢𝘥, 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘪 𝘬𝘰 𝘴𝘢 𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘭𝘪 𝘯𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘸𝘢 𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘰 𝘴𝘢 𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘢 𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘰𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘥 𝘢𝘺 𝘪𝘴𝘢 𝘴𝘢 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘨𝘪 𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘬𝘢𝘴𝘺𝘰𝘯 𝘴𝘢 𝘑𝘪𝘩𝘢𝘥.”
The three-day event was facilitated by Ms. Jamila-Aisha Sanguila, MA, founder of WE Act for Dialogue and Peace, with the assistance of Ma’am Noni Lao from WIMRA-LDS and Ms. Raima Dimaampao from Al-Mujadilah Development Foundation and a professor at the Department of Community Development MSU-Main. They shared their expertise and valuable insights on strategic planning and organizational management processes.
This activity is under the Ministry’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Program as part of the endeavor of the Ministry to support and build networks of peacebuilders and local mediators to achieve enduring peace in the Bangsamoro region.
